Biographical sketch

Otto Wallach, born 1847, was a German chemist and professor known for identifying compounds known as terpenes. In 1910, Wallach was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on alicyclic compounds. In 1912, he was awarded the Davy Medal "on the ground of his research on the chemistry of the essential oils, and the cyclo-olefines." Wallach died in 1931 in Go╠łttingen Germany.
